Career development

As a world class organization we encourage our employees to continue in their career development by providing different opportunities for learning. Whether it is computer training courses or leadership development, each employee can participate. We also offer a full array of on-the-job training including equipment and processes training.

Employees are asked to create a personal development plan to enable them to work with their supervisor to get the training necessary to contribute all they can. This plan, along with regular performance reviews, helps to recognize potential to provide education, training, and mentoring for each individual.

The success of Kennecott Utah Copper depends on the commitment and skills of our current and future employees.

At Kennecott Utah Copper we recognize the need to develop and grow talent within our own community. That’s why we have established different programs to address the future need of key positions within our organization.

Work-Study Scholarship program:

Kennecott Utah Copper has established twenty-four (24) $2,000 Technical/Crafts Work-Study Scholarships for students who are pursuing a maintenance career in the areas of instrumentation, electrical, diesel mechanics, and linemen. Students must be enrolled full-time in a technical school training program and meet certain requirements. The selected students are required to complete a summer of work at one of our facilities. Information is available at any technical school and/or by calling Human Resources at 801-569-6000.

Graduate and Intern Development programs:

Kennecott offers a wide range of opportunities for college graduates and is committed to their development within our company. The program is open to anyone who has completed an undergraduate or graduate degree and has less than three years professional work experience. Selected candidates receive technical on-the-job training, targeted learning and development opportunities, mentoring by an experienced Kennecott colleague, and networking and learning initiatives. For students who are still completing their program we offer temporary work, usually during the summer between their junior and senior years in college.

We provide opportunities across a range of disciplines including metallurgical, mining, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, industrial hygiene, geology, finance, law, and human resources.
